The Mesa Police Department wishes to address community concerns and misinformation about our involvement with immigration matters. We hope you will watch these informational videos.
There are 3 different types of 287g models. Mesa PD only participates in the 287g Jail Enforcement Model. This is NOT new to the Mesa Police Department, in fact, this program has been in place in Mesa since 2009, and our practices have not changed. This program does NOT allow Mesa Police Officers to proactively search for and arrest undocumented immigrants. This model applies to individuals who have been arrested for a criminal offense and are in the Mesa Police holding facility.
ICE Warrants: When Mesa Police officers encounter an individual, it is standard procedure to run a history check through the National Crime Information Center. This is the database where all warrants are entered. If the subject has an active ICE warrant it will notify the officer to contact ICE. ICE then determines how they will handle the warrant. Mesa Police have NO further involvement.
It is important to remember victims and witnesses of crime are not asked their immigration status.
The Mesa Police Department is here to serve and protect every member of our community.
